( heh. he’s totally right isn’t he? )

You don’t have to worry. I’m not going anywhere anytime soon. You know how many chickens I gotta take care of at Ramsey Farm?

( a chuckle, he gets himself up and heads over to his closet where he starts to pull some boxes out. not a whole lot. just a few. )

But hey. You know how to play snakes and ladders or checkers? I got them if you do. Or maybe… ( holding up a particular game box, he scrunches his face up to be all MYSTERIOUS. ) …how about Clue? Mwahahaha!!

[brat]

( why is jon laughing like that. why is he making that face. ugh. children are so weird. he doubts this is a jonathan kent specific thing, he knows the boy well enough to know what's specifically his and what is more - his childhood, how he was raised. who raised him. )

I know how to play checkers. You'll have to show me how the rest work.

[solarson]

We can go with checkers then.

( a nod at that, smile still on his lips, he sets the other boxes down and brings over the one containing checkers. plopping himself down on the floor again, he opens up the box and begins to take everything out, carefully setting it up there in front of him, tongue poking out a little in thought as he does so. )

Let me guess. You want to be the black chips, right?

[brat]

I don't care either way.

( the color of blood and shadows facing one another in a duel in which the true purpose is to get them across the board, likely sacrificing their brethren along the way, so that their master can stack the corpses of the fallen atop them and continue using them to vanquish their enemies - what difference does the color really make in checkers?

titus settles in with a huff, laying himself across the floor without a care in the world as his eyes droop shut, but damian - shifts to sit up on his knees across from the board from jon, watching as he sets up the pieces. )

And I won't go easy on you.

Oh, good. I wasn't planning on going easy on you either.

( grin grin grin. silly little grin on his face as he sets it all up for them and then smiles as he waves his hands over the board, as if casting magic to start it all up for them. )

Kay. I'll go first!

( as he happily takes a red checker in hand. )

[brat]

( jon looks so - at ease. damian supposes that makes sense - he's a ten year old boy living in an apartment with both his parents, albeit younger than he's used to them being. clark kent is still clark, and lois - damian hasn't spent too much time around here, but she seems about normal. the kents should really be studied, he supposes. to discern how they manage to be so - this despite everything.

aurora is supposed to announce another mission tomorrow morning, and here jon is, grinning over checker pieces.

he reaches for one of his own, and damian hunches forward a little, looking over the board. )

Did you know Checkers is dependent on others making errors? Without them, play would always end in a draw.

[solarson]

Heh. Guess you better keep up then.

( he darn well knows that's just to rile damian up to a little friendly competition and so! he starts the game off, getting himself up on his hands and knees as he does, tongue sticking out in Very Seriously Playful Thought as he goes about making his move. )

Do I seem like the kind of person who makes mistakes?

( jon makes his own move, and damian quickly moves his own piece in response, eyes narrowed as he watches the boy play. )

[solarson]

You want an honest answer to that?

( sticking his tongue out, he makes his move and drops himself down onto his butt, rubbing at his nose with the tips of his fingers before he's reaching for a blanket nearby and draping it over his shoulders. almost like a cape. heh. )

[brat]

I have learned more in my ten years than you will in your entire life, Kent.

( the boy can act cute, damian doesn't care. he's just going to keep playing. )

[solarson]

Well I turned eleven last month so I’m already ahead of you.

( normally it’s the other way around but such is life currently and… there he goes making another move, grinning as he does. )

[brat]

( terrible. but it does have him pausing for a brief moment before moving his own piece. )

Do birthdays still count if you've returned home after them?

[solarson]

( at that, he gives a genuine albeit curious think with his head tipping back a bit. )

I don't know. Time is weird in general. The flow of it and all. Some people don't even think it really exists.

[brat]

If they do count, then I am older than you.

( since he had his own eleventh birthday back in december, before he returned back home. )

Heh. Maybe you'll get that growth spurt one of these days to show it.

( he's teasing!! )

I am not that short.

( he looks - mildly bothered, but not really. damian's height hasn't been a sore spot for the most part, aside from when people like jon bring it up.

picking up a piece, damian uses it to jump over two of jon's own and - drops those two in front of his side of the board. )

And my smaller stature is useful. I can fit in significantly smaller areas than even you could.

[solarson]

( hey, he doesn't often get something to nag damian about, but! he knows when to not push it and he's just teasing anyways. stretching those long legs of his out and sitting there in a V, he rubs at his nose with the tips of his fingers before he goes and moves his piece across the board. )

Hey, you wanna go to the junkyard sometime and see if we can find any cool stuff we can use for our base? I mean, it came pretty decently equipped, but we could always add to it.

[brat]

What would you want to add?

( it has the gym. the kitchenette. escape pods. computers albeit relatively useless ones. damian can't think of anything else they'd need that they can store underground. )

[solarson]

( at that, he tips his head back some in thought. hmmm! )

We can always keep extra supplies down there in case anything breaks. I mean, the computers aren't much use unless we convert them into gaming computers. ( heh, there's a thought. ) But I mean, I just thought we could see if there's anything that could be of use. You know. Just in case stuff.

[brat]

( jon does have a good point. and it's one they should keep in mind. damian moves a piece with a thoughtful hum. )

Storing additional supplies is not a terrible idea, especially given we do not know what could be coming next.

[solarson]

Yeah, see? You get what I mean. You never know in this place. Something could suddenly become as valuable as currency or whatever.

( he's just saying after all! )

[brat]

Bartering has always been an effective way to get necessary items even if currency doesn't exist here.

( but jon isn't wrong. so damian - gives a little bit of a sigh, pressing his hands to his thighs so he can push himself up to his feet. )

Should we go now? Or check on your father's attempt at cooking?

[solarson]

( getting himself up as well, he dusts his hands off on his knees before he gives it a good think. )

We should probably see how the food's coming along. Don't want to miss out on that.

( he'd be starving otherwise! )

[brat]

Titus, stay.

( given he'd raised his head as jon got himself up, but he settles back down quickly enough. damian almost leaves it at just that, but - )

My father cannot cook much, if anything. Most of the things we have in the manor and tower are heavily processed and low effort.

[solarson]

Yeah, I believe it.

( he says that with a soft chuckle before he's giving a pat to damian's shoulder. )

Don't worry. Dad's pretty good so you'll have a proper meal here.

( and with that, it's off to check on the progress there together. )
