Batman said I should pick one identity and stick to that and I've been around as Superboy a lot.

Jon... I'm asking this without expecting you to know, but does Batman ever deal sensibly with problems as they arise, or does he overthink and overplan and end up in convoluted situations that direct communication could have solved more often than any given person should on the regular?

I mean... he's good at what he does?

( he knows his parents have had their share of things to say about batman, but. you know. )

( she could list out the reasons behind her logic, and she doesn't assume she's right, but... she is lifting an eyebrow her son can't see.

I'm sure he's Gotham's Dark Knight. ( Because yes, Gotham does need someone fighting for her. Still. ) But he's not your father, and he's not making sense for you. What he and Robin do are things they can work out for themselves, but I think the call about who you want to be while you're here is something you and your dad have a greater say in than this Batman.

( she can’t see, but he really is just blinking there on the other end because… she sounds so incredibly like his mom that it just takes him a couple seconds to remember he’s not home. )

I know but he just wants me to be safe. Especially from Luthor.

I believe he and you both believe he wants that, but his answer is ( lazy, sloppy, shortsighted ) inadequate. Luthor seeing you as Superboy is already going to attract more attention from him than if you were running around as Jon and doing metahuman things.

( she pauses, breathing in for a moment. it's pretty clear to her there are enough alternate realities in play here that luthor may be significantly different in his actions and obsessions from world to world. batman doesn't know their luthor, most likely. jon doesn't either. even if jon did, he's a kid. there are things she wouldn't expect him to understand in the same ways she hopes batman, a supposedly grown adult, should. )

Has your dad told you what it is that turned public tide against him in our last week on our Earth?

( if he were solely in the care of batman here were hos parents — any version of them — not around within etraya like this, well. that would sure be Something. )
